How effective are Entertaining/Wacky Commercials?

Why Old Spice Commercials are effective. 4/29/18 If you ever have seen a commercial that made entirely no sense, but still remains to be embedded in your brain, most likely it would be Old Spice. To begin, Old Spice is a male deodorant brand. The company usually targets male teens, young men, and even moms. Initially, it conveyed the message that their(mothers) sons need this product and that it would make their son more appealing towards the female eye. However, commercials diverted from its original audience and onto young men and teens. For example, commercials nowadays portray wacky figures(see picture above), irrational situations, and anything that you could see from Alice In Wonderland. Furthermore, these commercials seem like they don't make any sense and you right, they don't. Thus, raising the question why these commercials are so effective, still running, and are able to convey their message even if it may be vague or unclear. To begin, such

The Persuaders

The Persuaders 4/29/18 To begin, before watching the in-class video I didn't realize how advertisements influence us throughout the media. Furthermore, I use social media on a daily basis. As a result, I'm enveloped in advertisements; of which are tailored to my interest or needs. At first, I thought it was a coincidence, however, when advertisements seemed they were directed at me it became disturbing. For example, advertisements seemed juxtaposed. Once in a while, I would watch a math video for assistance, however, the advertisements weren't related to math but to my search history.  It was after the video when I realized how naive I was being in the past. Furthermore, I now realize that advertisers target special audience depending on their interest. As a result, I can be exposed to advertisements that can potentially interest me no matter what I do on social media. Also, I realize that I should read the terms of service whenever entering a site wher

Difference between News Outlets

Differences between News Outlets          To begin, My two news outlets are Fox News(1) and CNN, aka the Cable News Network(2) with their respective links below: 1. http://www.foxnews.com/world/2018/04/21/india-seeks-death-penalty-for-rape-girls-under-12.html 2. https://www.cnn.com/2018/04/21/asia/india-death-penalty-child-rape-intl/index.html When reviewing both of the sources, some of the information was vague or appeared out of context. Furthermore, it was stated by Fox News that the decision of a municipal ordinance to implement stricter laws created "outrage" over the recent brutal rape and killing of an 8-year-old girl in Jammu-Kashmir state and the alleged rape of a girl by a ruling party lawmaker in Uttar Pradesh state. As a result, you begin to wonder which groups are outraged. In the context, that statement constituted the entire paragraph and further explanation wasn't offered. In contrast, CNN gave more information which accommodated for both pers

My relationship with Media

My Relationship with Media in a Nutshell 4/19/18                           To begin, I'm defining media as any source of mass communication. Furthermore, sources such as social media, music, songs, books, etc. As a result, I tend to listen to music the most and I use social media an equal amount as well.               For one, I listen to a lot of music including Lana Del Ray; of which her music sounds really depressing. However, I don't feel that such music changes my mood or attitude to a drastic extent. Moreso whenever I listen to relaxing club music(Honne), all it does is just soothes my nerves. Overall, I spend a lot of time listening to music, however, such music doesn't affect me in a negative way.             I also go onto social media such as Instagram once in a while. I don't use Snapchat nor will I be one of those people who manage to stockpile over 500 streaks or something. Moving on, I just go onto Instagram to look at memes or random stu
