Differences between News Outlets
To begin, My two news outlets are Fox News(1) and CNN, aka the Cable News Network(2) with their respective links below:
1.http://www.foxnews.com/world/2018/04/21/india-seeks-death-penalty-for-rape-girls-under-12.html
2.https://www.cnn.com/2018/04/21/asia/india-death-penalty-child-rape-intl/index.html
When reviewing both of the sources, some of the information was vague or appeared out of context. Furthermore, it was stated by Fox News that the decision of a municipal ordinance to implement stricter laws created "outrage" over the recent brutal rape and killing of an 8-year-old girl in Jammu-Kashmir state and the alleged rape of a girl by a ruling party lawmaker in Uttar Pradesh state. As a result, you begin to wonder which groups are outraged. In the context, that statement constituted the entire paragraph and further explanation wasn't offered.
In contrast, CNN gave more information which accommodated for both perspectives; minority groups demanding stricter laws and Modi's political party. Furthermore, everything was explicitly stated, removing vagueness and misinterpretation. While both sources weren't deliberately using any techniques to manipulate their writing, the main issue was the contrast in information. For example, CNN included multiple perspectives and dates, all with little to no bias. On the other hand, Fox News reported the same events, however, it was difficult to understand when or where something happened, or why it happened. In the end, the amount of information was the main difference between Fox News and CNN.
